Welcome, peaceables! Since hope is not a plan, let’s plan for what is likely to happen if Joe Biden is reelected President of the United States on November 5, 2024.
At this point in the election cycle, we are in disaster prevention mode. We must work for Biden's election. Nevertheless, his election will still result in violence, though most probably lesser violence than if Trump wins. (To be addressed in the next article.)
In medias res. The battle lines have been drawn. There is real tension between the MAGA cultists and the rest of us. This tension will explode into violence upon news of Joe Biden gaining the requisite electoral votes to be elected.
Strategic goals. Nonviolent resolution of conflict.
Prevention of violent confrontations.
Neutralization of the MAGA assemblies.
SMART Objectives, viz., Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound.
Effect a peaceful transition to Biden’s second term from November 6, 2024, to January 20, 2025.
Forestall violent protests on the part of MAGA. Strengthen the presence of local law enforcement to provide protection from the armed intimidators on the MAGA side. Begin now to ingratiate ourselves with law enforcement despite the fact that a significant number of them vote Republican.
Prevent this possibility, as outlined by Thom Hartmann:
“Like Mitch McConnell withholding Merrick Garland’s nomination to the Supreme Court for over a year, [Speaker of the House Mike Johnson] withholding certification of a handful of Democrats would be easy, legal, and completely immoral. There’s nothing Democrats can legally do to stop Speaker Johnson from pulling this off: he can postpone swearing a member in for as long as he wants.
“That keeps Speaker “MAGA Moscow Mike” Johnson in charge of the House, so they can also refuse to accept the Electoral College certificates of election from a handful of states where they claim there are ‘problems.’”
If Johnson’s tactic is legal, how can we prevent it? We have to mass appeal to whatever is left of his conscience. This appeal would require a snowstorm of emails, letters, and voicemails to his office beginning November 6, 2024, and continuing until January 6, 2025. We will also need a tremendous turnout of people peaceably assembled in front of the Capitol Building to express our grievance and ask for redress.
Action steps to take next.
GOTV for Democrats up and down the ballot.
Converse with the police and military to get them to commit to upholding the law. It’s one thing to back the blue, but what if the blue doesn’t back us? Send email letters to all layers of policy, from municipal to county, state, and FBI. See the sample letter below.1
Commit to nonviolent passive resistance to effect change. If necessary, counter the MAGA assemblies by holding peaceful assemblies, including civil disobedience. If arrested, contact friendly lawyers from organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF), and Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism (FAIR) for defense.
Evaluation consisting of regular progress reports.

Biden: ‘I promise you’ Trump won’t accept election results if he loses
Dear [Police Official]:
We enjoy living in [city, village, or community] for many reasons, among them the beautiful environment, convenience of shopping, and friendly neighborhoods. This good life is possible because you and your force keep us safe and secure.
Recently, my family and I have become less sure of our safety and security. We are especially worried about violence occurring around the time of the presidential election in November 2024. We are afraid armed groups will confront us as we go about our business in public areas. We are terrified to think that they may even come into our neighborhood to intimidate us.
I’m afraid the thin blue line will not be enough this year. We will need a thick blue line.
We continue to trust you to protect us from those who would harm us. We reconfirm our support of law enforcement to secure the peace in our community.
Thank you for your service and protection!
Sincerely,
[Your name]
